Black Ops Entertainment was an American video game development studio based in Santa Monica, California. Founded on September 1, 1994, by four graduates from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), the company initially developed games for the Sony PlayStation, with titles like Agile Warrior F-111X, Black Dawn, and Treasures of the Deep marking their early contributions to the gaming industry. The studio gained recognition for developing sports titles, notably contributing to EA Sports' Knockout Kings and NCAA March Madness series. In 2000, Knockout Kings 2000 was awarded the AIAS Console Sports Game of the Year. Throughout its operation, Black Ops Entertainment developed a total of sixteen games across various platforms, including PlayStation, Nintendo 64, PlayStation 2, GameCube, and Xbox. The company ceased its video game development operations in 2006. However, founder John Botti continued to use the Black Ops name for developing mobile applications, with the last known release being aiTrader in 2019.
